Documents

The group holds many types of paper documents, including
certificates, charters, diaries, identification cards, invoices, newsletters, newspaper articles, prize schedules and sermons. There are over 1,600 discrete catalogue entries, some of which can have multiple items (eg D 216 “census information Deskford” 1841 to 1901, which has in total 28 documents).

It is possible to keyword search those documents saved as searchable pdf files (ie most but not all). To take an example, to find any searchable pdf file containing Lintmill Picnic and Games, you could enter the words Lintmill or Lintmill Picnic or Lintmill Picnic and Games. Lintmill entered on its own would also turn up any other files containing the word Lintmill.

We are working on other methods to search the online database and visitors can also browse the catalogue using the computers in the reading room at the heritage centre or check entries here.

We hold records for many different topics including:

  • CDPHG members’ archives, research and writings
  • Churches
  • Councils
  • Deskford carnyx
  • Doric poems
  • Fishing
  • Harbours
  • Railways
  • Schools
  • Shops

We aim to put as much as possible online in digitised form whilst keeping copyright protected and otherwise embargoed items in physical form at the heritage centre. The catalogue of documents can be browsed here or browsed at the heritage centre within opening hours.

Donations of items of local historical interest are welcome, if possible please bring them to the centre within opening hours and fill out a donation form.
